All of our gravel, pebbles, shingle and chippings have a long lasting mulching effect. A layer of stones will insulate soil and improve drainage in cold, wet weather, and provide root shade and aid water retention in hot weather. Hard mulches are also brilliant at stopping weeds in their tracks, meaning you have more time to spend on the gardening jobs you enjoy.
Our decorative aggregates are suitable for driveways, paths, borders, rockeries, water features and much more.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is Gabion Stone used for?
Gabion Stone is a large, angular aggregate used primarily to fill gabion baskets for retaining walls, erosion control, garden features, and architectural landscaping. It can also be used as a decorative statement in contemporary garden designs.
2. What size is the stone?
Gabion Stone is typically sized at 100–200mm, making it ideal for use in standard gabion cages or wire baskets, which require larger stones to maintain structure and prevent slippage through the mesh.
3. What is it made from?
Corker’s Gabion Stone is made from robust limestone, selected for its strength, weather resistance, and natural aesthetic. Its angular shape helps it lock securely into place when packed into cages.
4. Where can I use Gabion Stone?
It’s perfect for:
- Filling gabion cages for retaining walls or raised beds
- Erosion control on sloped or water-affected ground
- Boundary walls or seating areas
- Architectural or feature walls
- Large-scale ground cover or garden borders
5. Is it suitable for decorative purposes?
Yes. While functional, Gabion Stone is also highly decorative — especially when paired with modern materials like Corten steel or timber. It provides a natural, rugged look ideal for contemporary outdoor spaces.
6. Can it be used without gabion cages?
While it’s designed for use in gabion baskets, it can also be used as large-scale decorative rock, for edging, or as a base layer beneath other aggregates in drainage or stabilisation applications.
7. Is it weather-resistant?
Yes. Gabion Stone is naturally frost- and weather-resistant, making it suitable for year-round outdoor use with little to no deterioration over time.
8. Will it change colour over time?
Gabion Stone weathers naturally. While it may develop a slight patina or light moss in damp, shaded areas, its core colour and structure remain intact. This natural ageing can add character and texture to landscape designs.
9. Is it safe for use in family gardens?
Yes, though due to the size and angular nature of the stone, it’s best used in structured areas like baskets or behind edging where movement is minimal. Care should be taken if children are playing nearby.
10. How much do I need to fill a gabion cage?
As a general guide, 1 cubic metre of space will require approximately 1.5 tonnes of gabion stone to fill properly, accounting for the air gaps between the stones.
