An understated and soothing shade when dry, they turn an energising green when wet, refreshing the look of gardens, water features, rockeries, paths, and plant pots.
The 5-30mm chips are perfect for drives, paths, plant pots and ground cover. The larger 30-50mm slate chips are a good choice for use on borders, paths and between paved areas.

Endless Possibilities at Corker
Add interest and intrigue to your garden with Corker’s range of decorative aggregates. We stock an impressive choice of types, sizes and colours, so you’re sure to find the perfect products to turn your landscaping aspirations into reality.
Use one type to create a uniform theme, use two or three in different areas to create contrast, or think totally outside the box and mix products together!
All of our gravel, pebbles, shingle and chippings have a long lasting mulching effect. A layer of stones will insulate soil and improve drainage in cold, wet weather, and provide root shade and aid water retention in hot weather. Hard mulches are also brilliant at stopping weeds in their tracks, meaning you have more time to spend on the gardening jobs you enjoy.
Our decorative aggregates are suitable for driveways, paths, borders, rockeries, water features and much more.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. What are Green Slate Chippings?
Green Slate Chippings are decorative flakes of natural slate with a rich green-grey hue. They are a popular choice for paths, borders, beds, water features, and low-maintenance ground cover.
2. What colour are they?
The slate appears light green to grey when dry, deepening to a richer, darker green when wet — making it particularly eye-catching around water features or during rainy conditions.
3. What size are the chippings?
They are typically 30–50mm in size, offering a rugged and layered texture. This larger flake style provides excellent ground coverage with a natural, rustic finish.
4. Where can they be used?
Green Slate Chippings are ideal for:
- Garden paths and walkways
- Borders and raised beds
- Around water features and ponds
- Rock gardens and alpine planting
- Mulching to retain moisture and suppress weeds
5. Are they suitable for driveways?
Slate chippings are not recommended for heavy-use driveways, as they can break under the weight of vehicles. However, they are fine for light traffic or purely decorative parking areas.
6. Do they help with weed control?
Yes. When laid over a weed membrane, slate chippings help block sunlight and inhibit weed growth, while still allowing water to drain through the surface.
7. Are they pet- and child-safe?
Yes. Slate is a natural and non-toxic material. However, as it has sharp, flaky edges, it’s better suited to decorative rather than play areas.
8. Will the colour fade over time?
No. Slate is naturally coloured and UV-resistant, so it won’t fade. It may weather slightly, developing a soft patina or moss in damp areas, adding to its charm.
9. Do they need maintenance?
Minimal upkeep is needed. Occasional raking helps maintain an even surface. If used under trees, clearing fallen leaves will help preserve their appearance.
10. How much do I need?
For an even spread at a 40–50mm depth, 1 bulk bag (approx. 850kg) typically covers around 8–10m². For decorative topping or shallow beds, slightly less may be needed.
