1. What are Black Chippings?
Black chippings are angular decorative stones with a deep charcoal to jet-black tone. They’re used to create striking, modern surfaces in gardens, driveways, borders, and paths.

2. What size are the chippings?
These chippings are graded to approximately 20mm, offering a bold, textured finish ideal for larger outdoor areas and high-contrast landscaping.

3. What are they made from?
Typically composed of crushed basalt or granite, black chippings are naturally hardwearing, UV-resistant, and frost-proof, making them ideal for year-round outdoor use.

Yes. Their angular shape helps them lock together when compacted, making them ideal for driveways. A proper sub-base and edge restraint are recommended for best performance.

7. Do they help suppress weeds?
Yes. When laid over a weed control membrane, black chippings help block light and reduce weed growth while allowing water to pass through freely.

8. Are they pet- and child-friendly?
Yes. They are safe to use in areas accessed by pets or children. However, due to their angular shape, they may be less comfortable under bare feet compared to rounded gravel.

9. Can they be used with other aggregates for contrast?
Absolutely. Black chippings work beautifully alongside lighter stones (e.g. buff or silver) to create striking contrast, defined pathways, or patterned gravel gardens.

10. How much will I need?
For decorative coverage at a 40mm depth, 1 bulk bag (approx. 850kg) typically covers 8–10m². For driveways, a deeper layer may be required for durability.

Drop Off Delivery

There is a £40 delivery charge for orders without a bulk bag in our local zone. When a bulk bag is added to the cart, the order will qualify for free local delivery and the £40 charge will automatically be removed.

Pallet Delivery

For deliveries outside of our local zone (17-mile radius of Paddock Wood) we send items out via a trusted third-party courier service. The price for pallet delivery outside our zone is £72.00 (2-3 days).

Parcel Delivery

Orders weighing less than 30kg will be sent via a trusted third-party courier service. The price for a parcel under 30kg is £14.40 (2-3 days) and £15.99 (next day).
