Frequently Asked Questions

1. What are Buff Chippings?
Buff chippings are natural decorative aggregates with a light, warm-toned finish. The 10mm size is ideal for pathways, driveways, garden borders, and as a top dressing for planters and beds.

2. What colour are they?
Buff chippings have a soft, sandy-beige to pale yellow hue, which brightens outdoor spaces and pairs well with both traditional and contemporary landscaping designs.

3. What are they made from?
These chippings are typically composed of durable, crushed limestone or sandstone. They are hard-wearing and maintain their colour over time, even in wet conditions.

4. What is the stone size?
Each piece is approximately 10mm in diameter, making them suitable for compact yet decorative coverage and easy underfoot use.

5. Where can I use them?
Buff chippings are versatile and can be used for:

  • Paths and walkways
  • Driveways (when laid correctly with a stable sub-base)
  • Borders and flower beds
  • Top dressing for pots and planters
  • Low-maintenance ground cover

6. Are they suitable for driveways?

Yes, though 10mm chippings may move slightly under car tyres. For better lock-in, ensure a compacted sub-base and edging is in place to keep the material contained.

7. Do they suppress weeds?
Yes. When laid over a weed membrane, buff chippings act as a physical barrier to help reduce weed growth while allowing water to drain through.

8. Are they safe for pets and children?
Yes. These natural stones have no sharp edges and are non-toxic, making them safe for garden spaces used by pets and children.

9. Will the colour change over time?
Buff chippings retain their colour well, especially when kept clean. Occasional washing or raking will help maintain their brightness, particularly after periods of rain or if exposed to leaf litter.

10. How much do I need?
Coverage will depend on the depth laid:

At 30–40mm depth, 1 bulk bag (approx. 850kg) typically covers around 8–10m².

It’s important to measure your space and calculate volume accordingly.
