Product Description
Rustic Looks. Robust Build
Our Porphyry Filetti Paving offers the same rustic look and feel to smaller cobble-style stone, with added durability and robustness. That means it can be used for more applications – from driveways to flooring for outdoor buildings. The natural finish of the tile tops combined with their split sides, make it easy to lay, and even easier to create a stunning design.
This sublime stone is available in two colour variations. Our colour mix offers a blend of naturally varying reds, browns, ochres and more. Or, our grey mix provides a more subtle and classic combination of slate, silver, and leaded tones.
Did you know that this Porphyry Filetti Paving is especially ideal for steep or inclined driveways. The naturally rough texture of their outer surfaces provides better traction in wet and even snowy conditions. No wonder classic Italian roads and castles are adorned with similar stonework on their approaches.
Style that Stands the Test of Time
Porphyry is a naturally occurring, mineral-rich igneous rock. Often containing flecks of coarse-grained crystals such as quartz and feldspar, this often adds to its unique and attractive looks. This probably explains why it has been a decorative stone of choice for millennia. The ancient Egyptians and Romans both built mausoleums and sarcophagi of Porphyry. And you’ll find tombs, monasteries, and even cathedrals across Europe made from this stunning stone.
And its good looks are combined with the strength of the hardiest rocks. Porphyry aggregate is often added to asphalt in Sweden, Norway, and Finland, to enable it to withstand the wear of spiked winter tyres.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. What material is Porphyry Filetti Paving made from?
It’s made from natural porphyry, a type of volcanic stone known for its exceptional hardness and colour variation.
2. What is the filetti format?
Filetti refers to long, narrow stone setts laid vertically or at angles, creating a striking fan-like or linear pattern with rich visual texture.
3. What makes porphyry suitable for outdoor paving?
Porphyry is incredibly dense and hard-wearing, making it ideal for driveways, courtyards, and heavily used outdoor spaces.
4. Is the surface slip-resistant?
Yes, the natural split finish provides excellent grip, even in wet or icy conditions.
5. How does porphyry perform in different weather conditions?
It is frost-resistant, heat-tolerant, and unaffected by rain or snow, making it a dependable choice for year-round use.
6. Will the colour change over time?
Porphyry naturally weathers beautifully. While slight mellowing may occur, its multicoloured tones tend to retain their richness and character.
7. What colours are typically present in the paving?
The palette includes purples, greys, browns, and rusty reds — giving each layout a unique, earthy look.
8. Is sealing required?
Not necessarily. Porphyry is dense and low-porosity, so sealing is optional and typically used only for enhancing colour or easing maintenance.
9. Is it suitable for driveways?
Yes, due to its exceptional strength and ability to withstand weight, it’s commonly used in driveways and areas with vehicular traffic.
10. How should it be maintained?
Porphyry requires minimal maintenance — regular sweeping and occasional washing with water will keep it in great condition.
