Preparation & Application Preparation

Ensure the tiles are securely fixed, and that the joints are free from dust, excess adhesive, bedding mortar, or other debris.

Mix Proportions:

The recommended mix ratio by volume is approximately 1 part water to 4 parts ARDEX FLEX FL powder. For a 10kg bag of ARDEX FLEX FL, approximately 2 liters of water is needed.

Mixing:

Add the ARDEX-FLEX FL powder to the appropriate amount of clean water in a clean container, stirring thoroughly until a creamy, workable mortar is achieved. For wall tiles with joints wider than 10mm, the mortar can be adjusted to a thicker consistency. The mixed grout has a working time of about 30 minutes at 20°C; higher temperatures will shorten, and lower temperatures will extend this working time.

Application:

Using a rubber squeegee or a rubber-backed trowel, press the grout firmly into the joints to ensure they are fully filled. Remove excess grout as you go, and wipe away any residue on the tile surface with a damp sponge within 30 minutes of application. If grout residues remain after 30 minutes, dampen the area with a fine mist from a suitable spray bottle to ease cleaning. Once the grout has hardened, any remaining dry film on the tile surface can be polished off with a dry cloth. Apply at temperatures above 5°C.

Note:

Some tiles, including ceramic, vitrified, porcelain, natural stone, or those with textured, matte, or porous surfaces, may be prone to surface discoloration during grouting. A test application is recommended to determine if discoloration is likely.
Coverage

The grout coverage depends on tile size, joint width, depth, and the Grout Coverage Figure. For ARDEX FLEX FL, the coverage figure is 1.75. To estimate the grout requirements for square or rectangular tiles, follow these steps (all measurements in mm):

1. Add the length and width of the tile.

2. Multiply the result by the joint width.
3. Multiply the result by the joint depth.
4. Multiply the result by the Grout Coverage Figure (1.75 for ARDEX FLEX FL).
5. Divide the result by the tile length.

6. Divide the result by the tile width.

This will give the material requirement in kg per square meter.

Example:

For tiles measuring 900mm x 600mm x 20mm with 5mm joints:

(1500 x 5 x 20 x 1.75) ÷ 900 ÷ 600 = 0.49kg/m².

This means one 10kg bag of ARDEX FLEX FL will cover up to 20m² of tiling. These calculations will vary depending on the joint dimensions.

There is a £40 delivery charge for orders without a bulk bag in our local zone. When a bulk bag is added to the cart, the order will qualify for free local delivery and the £40 charge will automatically be removed.

Pallet Delivery

For deliveries outside of our local zone (17-mile radius of Paddock Wood) we send items out via a trusted third-party courier service. The price for pallet delivery outside our zone is £72.00 (2-3 days).

Parcel Delivery

Orders weighing less than 30kg will be sent via a trusted third-party courier service. The price for a parcel under 30kg is £14.40 (2-3 days) and £15.99 (next day).
