Marlene Lento designs bespoke gardens across Kent and East Sussex, creating spaces that balance aesthetic appeal with practical functionality. Working with Garden Precision landscapers, she’s crafted this timeless outdoor room that demonstrates how small spaces can become multifunctional havens.

The concept centres on creating a relaxed refuge that combines dining and cooking areas with structural planting. The clever use of simple elements, including the popular floating Millboard bench, means customers can easily adapt the design for their own space by simply adjusting dimensions.

Materials chosen for versatility: brick, Millboard, and dark-stained timber cladding work equally well alongside modern urban homes or period properties. This thoughtful palette ensures the design stands the test of time.

Perfect for families maximising limited outdoor space, outdoor cooking enthusiasts, or anyone creating an additional ‘room’ within a larger garden.

Praesto Landscapes

Praesto Landscapes created this Show Garden to demonstrate how clever design can segregate a small space into two distinct, usable areas whilst maintaining a calm and tranquil atmosphere throughout.

The concept focuses on creating a laid-back social space with rustic charm and a warm, welcoming presence. The design cleverly balances natural materials with modern elements to achieve a soft, pretty garden that feels both timeless and contemporary.

The garden uses innovative products that customers can see and touch in a real setting. Oak sleepers provide natural warmth alongside modern porcelain tiles, whilst the striking steel pergola serves as the garden’s centrepiece – designed to develop a beautiful rust patina that adds character and an aged quality to the modern framework.

Low maintenance was key to the design philosophy, ensuring the garden will last whilst requiring minimal upkeep. Perfect for middle-aged and retired customers seeking a sophisticated outdoor space that combines old-world charm with modern convenience.

Founded in 1998, they’ve built lasting client relationships over more than two decades, offering comprehensive design, construction and maintenance services.

The concept demonstrates how simple, crisp design works in small spaces whilst being adaptable from compact new builds to country houses. The focus is making limited areas usable, visually appealing and private.

Key features include pleached hornbeam for privacy, warm Dune Pearl Limestone that weathers beautifully, and aromatic lavender providing year-round interest with intense summer colour.

Perfect for couples in modern properties or families in period homes seeking a relaxing, low-maintenance courtyard space.

Metamorph Landscapes

This intimate courtyard garden was designed to create a sense of suspense and discovery. A single sightline draws you through a staggered clay paver pathway. Leading to a multi-stem specimen tree, a subtle focal point that opens up into a small, peaceful seating area.

Elevation plays a key role in shaping the experience. Corten steel planting beds and limestone steps guide you gently toward an elevated patio terrace, where you can sit and take in the planting display from above. The rich, earthy tones of the Corten steel are softened by a cool, harmonious planting palette, blending structure with softness. Designed with pollinators and wildlife in mind, the garden embraces natural cycle. Leaving seedheads, fallen leaves, and nesting spaces to encourage biodiversity.

Though compact in scale, this garden’s structure and principles can be adapted and expanded into larger landscapes, proving that small spaces can still inspire big ideas.

Hopkins Nash is a creative collaboration specialising in garden and planting design across Kent, Surrey and Sussex. Based in Sevenoaks, they focus on creating connections between homes, people, and spaces through professional design that stands the test of time.

The concept draws inspiration from contemporary Dutch design, using Corker’s Dutch clay pavers to explore beauty in simplicity with clean, uncluttered lines. The design demonstrates how to maximise awkwardly shaped or small spaces through clever positioning.

Key features include a diagonal central path that accentuates the garden’s longest dimension, and an angled limestone terrace creating dynamic space. Clay pavers in harmonious colours combine with limestone to create distinct zones, whilst existing materials were revitalised sustainably rather than replaced.

Perfect for anyone with challenging garden areas, with scalable ideas for spaces of any size.

Paul Wood Landscaping

Paul Wood Landscaping has designed this Show Garden to demonstrate a low-maintenance, modern approach to outdoor living that reflects realistic contemporary lifestyles in space-limited gardens.

The concept centres around a medium-sized hot tub perfectly positioned on Millboard decking. As approved Millboard installers, PWL chose this product for its hard-wearing and anti-slip properties, making it ideal for wet areas around hot tubs.

Attention to detail is evident in the porcelain paving and steps, which showcase PWL’s craftsmanship whilst ensuring the garden looks fresh year after year with minimal maintenance requirements.

The design demonstrates how these elements could easily integrate into a larger garden scheme, showcasing the various materials and approaches PWL can offer for modern outdoor living spaces.

Perfect for homeowners seeking a contemporary, low-maintenance garden with luxury outdoor living features.

Gardenproud

Garden Proud has created this Show Garden as an innovative retreat inspired by the souks of Marrakech and Riad gardens of Morocco, transporting visitors to another place whilst evoking cherished holiday memories.

The concept centres on creating an authentic North African atmosphere using carefully researched distressed rendering techniques and lighting sconces sourced directly from North Africa. The design blends tropical-inspired plants hardy enough for our temperate climate with familiar perennials.

Sustainable approaches include sourcing all roofing materials from reclaim yards, recycling timber whilst achieving the weathered, authentic look envisioned for the arbour structure.

The atmosphere provides a relaxing sanctuary that serves multiple purposes – a sheltered retreat for reading, enjoying coffee, working, or simply escaping. The space offers both holiday-inspired ambience and practical weather protection.

Perfect for families and couples seeking a special retreat space that combines exotic inspiration with year-round usability in the British climate.

Cameron Trend & Will Bus Landscaping have crafted this Show Garden to inspire a sense of enclosure and reflection, demonstrating what small gardens can achieve through thoughtful design that guides visitors through the space.

The concept creates an intimate environment through stepping pads and strategically placed benches, with a descending layout that fosters tranquillity. Vibrant planting featuring lush textures and greens softens the geometric framework, whilst textural greens and soft whites create beautiful contrast against the dark structural elements.

Materials showcase creative integration of diverse elements – from luxurious custom stone to functional timber posts and steel-reinforced mesh used as subtle climbing plant trellises. The design demonstrates how readily available materials can be employed innovatively.

The atmosphere provides an outdoor sanctuary perfect for unwinding during breaks from home office work, with comfortable seating positioned to catch sun at various times throughout the day.

Ideal for professionals seeking a tranquil retreat space that combines intimate enclosure with opportunities for relaxation and reflection.
